Kovancilar

Kovancilar is a small district town in Elazığ Province, Eastern Anatolia, lying on the main D300 highway east of Elazig city. Its name means "town of the herdsmen" and it serves as a local market centre for the surrounding agricultural plain. With a population of around 10,000, Kovancilar is a typical Anatolian rural town with a quiet, unhurried pace. It is a common stopover for travellers on the route between Elazig and Bingöl, offering basic services and a glimpse of provincial Turkish life.

The town experiences a continental climate with hot dry summers and cold snowy winters. Spring brings green fields, while autumn is mild.

Elazığ Airport (EZS IATA) is the nearest, about 70 km west. Taxis and dolmuşes connect from the airport via Elazig.

By Car / Road

Kovancilar sits directly on D300, the main east-west highway across Eastern Anatolia. Frequent minibuses and buses from Elazig (about 1 hour) serve the town.

The town is compact and walkable. Dolmuşes connect to nearby villages and settlements.
