Mount Ararat National Park

Ağrı, Turkey

Why visit Mount Ararat National Park?

Mount Ararat National Park (Ağrı Dağı Milli Parkı) encompasses Turkey's highest mountain, the 5,137 m dormant volcano Mount Ararat, and its surrounding high-altitude landscapes. According to the biblical Book of Genesis, Noah's Ark came to rest on Ararat after the Great Flood. The mountain is a major destination for mountaineers and trekkers, as well as a powerful cultural symbol for Armenians and Kurds alike. The national park covers the mountain's slopes, alpine meadows, and glacial valleys.

The best time to climb is June to September. Outside these months, snow and extreme cold make climbing dangerous. Permits are required for summit attempts.
