Kilindoni
Coast, Tanzania
Why visit Kilindoni?
Kilindoni is the main town on Mafia Island, located off the coast of Tanzania opposite the Rufiji River delta. It is the administrative centre of Mafia District and the main entry point for visitors to Mafia Island Marine Park. The town has a relaxed Swahili coastal character, with white sandy beaches, coconut palms, and a fishing harbour.
Mafia Island is known for its exceptional marine biodiversity, including whale sharks (October–March), sea turtles, coral reefs, and mangrove forests. The Mafia Island Marine Park protects a large area of the island's coast and is a premier diving and snorkelling destination. Kilindoni has a small airport, basic shops, and accommodation options ranging from budget guesthouses to mid-range lodges.
