Utete

Coast, Tanzania

Why visit Utete?

Utete is a small town in eastern Coast Region, located near the Rufiji River delta. It serves as the district centre for the Rufiji area, a huge river delta and floodplain that is one of the largest mangrove ecosystems in Africa. The area is known for its biodiversity, particularly birdlife, and the river supports fishing and rice farming.

Utete is very basic and undeveloped for tourism, but the Rufiji River delta is of interest to ecotourists and birdwatchers. The town has limited facilities.
