Shahriston

Sughd, Tajikistan

Why visit Shahriston?

Shahriston is a town in northern Sughd Region, located in the Shahriston Valley approximately 40 km north of Ayni and 130 km southeast of Khujand. It is the administrative centre of Shahriston District and a stop on the road connecting the Zarafshan Valley to the Khujand area via the Shahriston Pass.

The town sits in a broad, fertile valley surrounded by the Turkestan Range. The district is known for its agriculture (fruit, grain, and livestock) and its proximity to the Shahriston Pass (3,098 m), which historically served as a route connecting the Ferghana Valley to the Zarafshan region. The climate features hot summers (30–35°C in the valley) and cold winters with significant snowfall. The pass is typically open May–October.
