Why visit Buston?
Buston (formerly known as Chkalovsk and later as Leninobod) is a town in western Sughd Region, situated on the northern shore of the Kayrakkum Reservoir approximately 10 km southwest of Khujand. It was built in the Soviet era as a planned industrial town, primarily to serve the workers of the Kayrakkum hydroelectric station and associated industries.
The town has a spacious, orderly layout with wide boulevards, parks, and Soviet-era apartment blocks. Its location on the "Tajik Sea" (Kayrakkum Reservoir) gives it a resort feel, with a long promenade along the lake shore. The climate is hot and dry in summer, with the reservoir providing some cooling breezes. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant visiting seasons.
