About Ayni

Ayni is a town in southern Sughd Region, situated in the upper Zarafshan River valley approximately 130 km north of Dushanbe and 170 km southeast of Khujand. It is the administrative centre of Ayni District and a key stop on the road connecting Dushanbe to the Sughd region via the Anzob Pass.

The town is named after the Tajik writer Sadriddin Ayni, a national literary hero. Its location in the Zarafshan Valley places it amid some of Tajikistan's most spectacular mountain scenery, with the Fann Mountains rising to the south and the Turkestan Range to the north. The district is a popular base for hiking, mountaineering, and the famous Iskanderkul Lake. The climate features warm summers (28–32°C in the valley) and cold, snowy winters. The best time to visit is June–September.
