Travellers Hill

Travellers Hill is a residential and support-services area on Ascension Island, located near the US base (the "Airhead"). It houses military and contractor personnel working at the island's communications and space-tracking facilities. It is not a tourist destination in the conventional sense — there are no historic buildings or visitor attractions — but its location near the Volcano Club and the base makes it a convenient hub for those on the island for work.

The climate is warm and dry, typical of Ascension's lowland areas.

By Plane

RAF Ascension Island (ASI) is a short drive away. No public transport exists; pre-arranged transport from a sponsor is required.

By Car / Road

Travellers Hill is a few kilometres from the airfield and about 10 km from Georgetown by paved road. No public bus service.

The area is compact and walkable. A hired or sponsored vehicle is essential for exploring beyond.

• Visiting the Volcano Club for food, drinks, and socialising.
• Hiking the nearby lava fields and exploring fumaroles and lava tunnels.

• Snack Bar — At the Volcano Club on the US base. American-style fast food. Tuesday–Friday 5–9PM, Saturday 4–9PM.

• Volcano Club — The most popular bar on Ascension, on the US base. Open from 17:00 with the best selection of alcohol and a lively atmosphere.

• Georgetown (10 km) — The main settlement with the port, shops, and the Saints' Club pub.
• Two Boats — Residential settlement with its own club for drinks and socialising.
• Green Mountain — A short drive to the island's lush peak for hiking and panoramic views.
