Green Mountain

Ascension, Saint Helena

Why visit Green Mountain?

Green Mountain is the highest point on Ascension Island, rising to 859 m (2,817 ft). It is a remarkable ecological curiosity — a man-made cloud forest planted by British botanists in the 19th century to capture moisture and transform the arid volcanic peak into a lush, green oasis. The mountain is within the Green Mountain National Park and is the island's premier destination for hiking and nature. Its upper slopes are often shrouded in mist, supporting a dense forest of Norfolk pines, bamboo, and ferns.

The climate on Green Mountain is noticeably cooler and wetter than the rest of Ascension, offering a refreshing contrast to the arid lowlands.
