Simeria is a town in Hunedoara County, Transylvania, in the Mureș meadow at its confluence with the Strei River, between the Apuseni and Retezat mountains. It is an important railway junction with a large hump yard. The name derives from Sânmăria (Saint Mary). It has a population of about 13,900.

By Plane
The nearest airports are Sibiu International Airport (SBZ), about 100 km east, and Timișoara Traian Vuia Airport (TSR), about 150 km west.
By Train
Simeria is a major railway junction with connections to Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Arad, Iași, Constanța and even Budapest. The station serves CFR Main Lines 200, 202 and 207.
By Car / Road
Simeria is on E68/DN7, midway between Deva (10 km west) and Orăștie (16 km east). The A1 motorway also passes nearby.
Simeria is a small town, easily walkable. Taxis are available for trips to nearby villages.
What are the things to do?
Dendrological Park (Simeria Arboretum) — 1 Decembrie St. The oldest and most valuable collection of exotic and native plants in Romania, covering 70 hectares (3rd in Europe, 11th in the world). Created in 1700 around Gyulai Castle.
Măgura Uroiului Natural Reserve — a Miocene-age volcanic dome. In Roman times, andesite was quarried here for buildings and monuments at Ulpia Traiana and Micia. Access via DJ 107A from Uroi village.
Uroi Hill — distinctive volcanic formation, a local landmark visible from the A1 motorway.
Stroll through the Dendrological Park — 70 hectares of exotic and native trees, perfect for a relaxing walk.
Visit Măgura Uroiului to see the volcanic dome and Roman quarry site.
