Pozo Colorado

Pozo Colorado is a small settlement and road junction in central Presidente Hayes department, at the intersection of Route PY09 (Transchaco Highway) and Route PY05 (west to Concepción). It is a critical refuelling and rest stop for travellers crossing the Chaco, with a few petrol stations, basic eateries, and simple lodging. The name means "coloured well" in Spanish. The climate is tropical and hot; the dry season (May–September) is the only comfortable time to travel.

Pozo Colorado is on the Transchaco Highway, 180 km northwest of Asunción (2.5 hr). Drivers heading to Concepción turn east onto Route PY05 here. Buses on the Asunción–Filadelfia and Asunción–Concepción routes stop at Pozo Colorado.

Walkable. Most facilities are clustered at the junction.
