Maiyama is a town in Kebbi State, headquarters of Maiyama Local Government Area, which covers about 1,028 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 176,000 at the 2006 census. It is part of Kebbi Central senatorial district, one of the 21 LGAs in a state that was itself created out of the former Sokoto State in 1991. The area has a hot savanna climate with a short rainy season (June–September) and a long dry season marked by Harmattan winds.
