The nearest major airport is Christchurch Airport (CHC), approximately 170 km north-east.
By Car / Road
Fairlie is on State Highway 8, about a 2-hour drive from Christchurch and 30 minutes south of Lake Tekapo. Bus services on the Christchurch–Queenstown route stop in Fairlie.
The town is compact and walkable. A car is needed for exploring the Mackenzie Basin.
