Why visit Lincoln?

Lincoln is a town in the Selwyn District, approximately 22 km south-west of Christchurch. It is best known as the home of Lincoln University, New Zealand's third-oldest university, which specialises in agriculture, horticulture, and environmental management.

Lincoln has a strong research and innovation sector, with several Crown Research Institutes located on the Lincoln University campus. The town has a village-like character with a growing population. The climate is dry and temperate with warm summers and cool winters.

By Plane

The nearest major airport is Christchurch Airport (CHC), approximately 20 km north-east.

By Car / Road

Lincoln is on Lincoln Rolleston Road, about a 20-minute drive south-west of Christchurch. Bus services connect Lincoln to Christchurch city centre and the University.

The town centre and university campus are walkable. A car is useful for exploring the wider Selwyn District.

Lincoln University — The campus has historic buildings and spacious grounds.

Lincoln Domain — Public park with sports fields, walking paths, and a playground.

Tussock Creek — A stream running through Lincoln with walking paths.

Lincoln Farmers' Market — Saturday morning market with local produce and crafts.

Silver Fern Farms — A major food processing facility in the area.

Visit the Saturday farmers' market. Walk the Lincoln Domain. Tour the Lincoln University campus. Cycle the Little River Rail Trail which starts near Lincoln.

Cafes in Lincoln village serve brunch and lunch. The university has cafes open to the public. The Waimak Frites food truck area is popular.
