Dronten

Dronten is a small planned town in eastern Flevoland, built on the Flevopolder and serving as the administrative centre of the municipality that also includes the villages of Swifterbant and Biddinghuizen. Founded in the 1960s, Dronten has a quiet, spacious character with wide streets, ample green space, and a relaxed atmosphere. It sits on the railway line connecting Lelystad to Zwolle.

The municipality's main attractions lie outside the town itself: Biddinghuizen is home to Walibi Holland theme park and hosts the Lowlands and Defqon.1 festivals, while Swifterbant is famous for the archaeological discovery of the Swifterbant culture, a mesolithic farming society that lived in the area over 7,000 years ago. Dronten town itself provides a practical and peaceful base for exploring eastern Flevoland.

Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS IATA) is about 60 minutes by train with a change in Lelystad or Almere.

By Train

Dronten railway station is on the Flevolijn/Hanzelijn line, with Intercity and Sprinter services connecting to Lelystad (10 min), Almere (20 min), Zwolle (15 min), and onward to Amsterdam and Utrecht.

By Car / Road

Dronten is accessible via the N307 provincial road, which connects to the A6 motorway at Lelystad. Driving from Lelystad takes about 15 minutes, from Zwolle about 20 minutes.

The town centre is compact and walkable. For reaching Biddinghuizen or Swifterbant, a car or bike is recommended. The flat Flevoland landscape makes cycling straightforward.
