Zeewolde
Flevoland, Netherlands
Why visit Zeewolde?
Zeewolde is a small town and municipality on the southern shore of the Flevopolder, bordering the Veluwemeer lake. With a population density of less than 80 people per square kilometre — remarkably low for the Netherlands — Zeewolde offers a spacious, open landscape of farmland, forest, and lakeside nature. The town was founded in the 1970s and 1980s as part of the Flevopolder development.
The municipality is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities. The Veluwemeer provides excellent conditions for watersports (sailing, windsurfing, kayaking), while the Horsterwold — one of the largest contiguous deciduous forests in the Netherlands — covers much of the southern part of the municipality. The area around Zeewolde also features naturist beaches and a network of cycling and walking paths.
