Why visit Siddharthanagar?
Siddharthanagar, also known as Bhairahawa, is a sub-metropolitan city in Rupandehi District on the Nepal–India border. It is the main gateway to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, located just 20 km east. The city is centred around the busy border crossing with Sunauli, India, and its airport serves both domestic pilgrims heading to Lumbini and international travellers arriving via connecting flights.
The climate is humid subtropical with very hot summers (April–June), a monsoon (June–September), and mild winters (October–February). The best time to visit is October–March.

By Plane
Gautam Buddha International Airport (BWA) in Siddharthanagar receives flights from Kathmandu (35 minutes) and international flights from Southeast Asia. The airport is 3 km from the city centre.
By Train
The nearest railway station is Nautanwa, across the Indian border, with connections to Gorakhpur and the broader Indian network.
By Car / Road
Siddharthanagar is on the Siddhartha Highway, 260 km west of Kathmandu (6–7 hours) and 20 km west of Lumbini. Frequent buses connect to Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Lumbini.
