Sunwal

Lumbini, Nepal

Why visit Sunwal?

Sunwal is a municipality in Nawalparasi West (Parasi) District, Lumbini Province, formed in 2014 by merging the Swathi and Sunwal village development committees (with the Ramnagar area added in 2017). It is the most populous municipality in the district, with a population of roughly 72,000 at the 2021 census, and sits in the Inner Terai plains where the Chure foothills meet the Terai. It is an agricultural and market town, not the Lumbini pilgrimage site itself, which lies further west.

The climate is humid subtropical with hot summers (April–June), a monsoon (June–September), and mild winters (October–February). The best time to visit is October–March.
