About Mechinagar

Mechinagar is a municipality in Jhapa District at the far eastern end of Nepal, named after the Mechi River that forms the border with India. It lies adjacent to the bustling border crossing of Kakarbhitta, Nepal's busiest overland trade and travel gateway to India. The town functions as a transit and commercial centre, with a vibrant market catering to cross-border traffic and a growing population.

The climate is humid subtropical with hot summers, a heavy monsoon from June to September, and mild winters. October to March is the most pleasant period. The town is strung along the Mahendra Highway near the border.
