Kagbeni

Gandaki, Nepal

Why visit Kagbeni?

Kagbeni is a medieval village at 2,810 m in the Kali Gandaki valley of Mustang District, at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong rivers. It serves as the gateway to the restricted Upper Mustang region and is a key stop on the Annapurna Circuit and the Jomsom–Muktinath trek. The village is a beautifully preserved settlement of Tibetan-style mud-brick houses, narrow alleys, and a 15th-century monastery.

The climate is arid and cool, with cold winters and mild summers. The best time to visit is March–May and September–November. Notorious afternoon winds sweep through the valley.
