Quelimane
Zambézia, Mozambique
Why visit Quelimane?
Quelimane is the capital of Zambézia Province, a historic port city on the Rio dos Bons Sinais (River of Good Signs), near the Zambezi River delta. It was an important Swahili and Portuguese trading port, and later became a centre for the slave trade and the export of agricultural produce. The city has a relaxed, tropical atmosphere with well-preserved colonial architecture along the riverfront. Quelimane is known for its bustling port, lively markets, and position as the gateway to the Zambezi delta.
