Inhaminga
Sofala, Mozambique
Why visit Inhaminga?
Inhaminga is the principal town of Cheringoma District, on the Cheringoma Plateau in the interior of Sofala Province — the plateau's highest point, at 379 m, lies near the town. It sits on the Sena railway, built across the plateau in the 1920s as the Trans-Zambezia Railway to link Beira toward Malawi; the line fell into disuse during the civil war but was restored in 2010 and now runs from Beira to the coal mine at Moatize in Tete Province. Inhaminga is a small agricultural and railway settlement surrounded by miombo woodland.
