Most
Hovd, Mongolia
Why visit Most?
Most (also spelled "Must") is a small soum (district) centre in Hovd Province, western Mongolia. It lies in the mountainous region south of the provincial capital Khovd city, in the transition zone between the steppe and the Altai Mountains. The area is sparsely populated, with a traditional pastoral economy centred on livestock herding — goats, sheep, cattle, and horses are the mainstay.
The climate is high-altitude continental with very cold winters (-25 to -35°C) and short, cool summers (15-20°C). Precipitation is low, though snow cover can be heavy in winter. The best time to visit is June through August when the weather is warmest and the mountain pastures are green.
Most offers a glimpse of traditional Mongolian life in a remote mountain setting. It is off the beaten track and appeals to travellers interested in authentic rural experiences, hiking, and the cultural landscape of the Mongolian Altai.
