Bamba is a small town and rural commune in Bourem Cercle, Gao Region, on the north bank of the Niger River, roughly 190 km east of Timbuktu and 230 km northwest of Gao city. The commune comprises the main town plus 19 surrounding villages and several nomadic population groups, with Songhai, Tuareg, and Bozo communities. The Sahelian climate alternates a long dry season with a short rainy season from roughly July to September.
