Nkhotakota

Nkhotakota is a historic town on the shores of Lake Malawi in the Central Region. It was a major slave entrepôt in the 19th century, where explorer David Livingstone negotiated with Swahili-Arab slave traders in an attempt to end the trade. The town is compact and fascinating, reflecting the ethnic diversity of the region. Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, east of town, has been restocked with elephants and other wildlife.

The climate is warm year-round. The dry season from May to October is the best time to visit.
