Amami Gunto National Park
Kagoshima, Japan
Why visit Amami Gunto National Park?
Amami Gunto National Park (奄美群島国立公園) was established in 2017 to protect the exceptional natural environment of the Amami archipelago, part of Kagoshima Prefecture. The park covers the islands of Amami Oshima, Tokunoshima, Kikaijima, and several smaller islets. The archipelago is a biodiversity hotspot with many endemic species, including the Amami rabbit (a "living fossil"), the Lidth's jay, and the Amami woodcock. The islands feature subtropical forests, mangrove estuaries, coral reefs, and pristine beaches. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.
