Obihiro

Hokkaido, Japan

Why visit Obihiro?

Obihiro (帯広) is the capital of the Tokachi sub-prefecture on the Tokachi Plain in central-eastern Hokkaido. It is the commercial and administrative heart of one of Japan's most productive agricultural regions, known for dairy farming, wheat, potatoes, sugar beets, and beans. The city has a relaxed, spacious feel with wide streets and a strong connection to the surrounding farmland and nature.

Obihiro experiences a continental climate with warm summers (around 22°C) and very cold winters (often below -10°C). Snowfall is moderate compared to other parts of Hokkaido. The best times to visit are summer (June-August) for pleasant weather and autumn (September-October) for harvest season and colourful foliage.

The city is also a gateway to the Tokachi area's natural attractions, including hot springs, hiking trails, and the nearby Hidaka mountain range.
