Solok

Sumatera, Indonesia

Why visit Solok?

Solok is a city in West Sumatra, about 1.5 hours from Padang in the Minangkabau highlands. Its official motto is "Kota Beras" — an acronym for Bersih, Elok, Rapi, Aman, Sejahtera ("clean, beautiful, tidy, safe, prosperous"), which also happens to read as "Rice City" in Indonesian, fitting for a region known for its rice paddies. It is surrounded by highland scenery and is a gateway to the Twin Lakes, Danau Diateh and Danau Dibawah — despite their names ("upper" and "lower"), Diateh actually sits on lower ground than Dibawah.
