Selatpanjang

Sumatera, Indonesia

Why visit Selatpanjang?

Selatpanjang is the capital of Meranti Islands Regency (Kepulauan Meranti), part of Riau province — not the separate Riau Islands (Kepulauan Riau) province. It sits on Tebing Tinggi Island (not to be confused with the Tebing Tinggi city in North Sumatra), separated from mainland Sumatra by a narrow channel, on the Strait of Malacca across from Singapore. The town has a population of roughly 66,000, with a large ethnic Chinese community alongside an ethnic Malay population of around 37%.
