How do you get there?

Buses from Medan's Amplas terminal reach Parapat by road; the bus arrives at the town center near the ferry docks.

What are the things to do?

Spectacular views of Lake Toba from the waterfront, and the Toba Bay area. Bukit Holbung, a well-known "teletubbies hill" viewpoint over the lake, is on Samosir Island rather than in Parapat itself — reaching it involves the car ferry across the lake plus a drive, roughly two hours total from Parapat.

Take the ferry to Samosir Island. Walk along the waterfront promenade. Eat at the lakeside restaurants.
