Bira
Sulawesi, Indonesia
Why visit Bira?
Bira is a fishing village and beach resort destination on the southern tip of South Sulawesi's Bulukumba Regency, about 200 km southeast of Makassar. It is famous for its stunning white sand beaches — among the finest in Sulawesi — crystal-clear turquoise waters, and traditional Phinisi schooner shipbuilding industry.
The area has three main beaches: Pantai Bira (the main beach), Pantai Apparalang to the east, and Pantai Panaramang to the west. The offshore islands of Pulau Kambing and Pulau Liukang Loe offer excellent snorkelling and diving. Bira has developed a laid-back tourism scene with a range of simple to mid-range accommodation.
The dry season (June–October) offers the best beach weather. The wet season (November–April) brings rougher seas and rain.
