Why visit Carita?

Carita is a coastal village in Banten, about 3 hours west of Jakarta, known for its black-sand beaches and as the main departure point for boat trips to the Ujung Kulon National Park and Anak Krakatau volcano. It is quieter and less developed than nearby Anyer, making it popular for a relaxed beach getaway.

How do you get there?

From Jakarta, take the Merak toll road to Serang, then south to Carita (total about 3-4 hours). Buses from Jakarta's Kalideres terminal go to Carita.

What are the things to do?

Carita Beach. The Krakatau view across the Sunda Strait. The Tanjung Lesung resort area to the south.

Multiple operators run boat tours from Carita out to Anak Krakatau, typically about a 1.5-hour crossing followed by a hike partway up the active cone to view the crater; many tours combine this with snorkelling at the older Krakatau remnants and a stop in Ujung Kulon National Park. Relaxing on the black-sand beach is the other main draw.
