Why visit Depok?

Depok is a city south of Jakarta in West Java, part of the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek). It is primarily a residential and educational hub, home to the University of Indonesia (UI), the country's most prestigious university. Depok has grown rapidly from a quiet town into a bustling city with shopping malls, housing developments, and a young, student-oriented culture.

How do you get there?

By train

Depok Station and UI Station are on the KRL commuter line from Jakarta Kota (45-60 minutes). It's the most efficient way from central Jakarta.

By bus

Buses connect Depok to Jakarta, Bogor, and other cities. TransJakarta also extends into Depok.

By car

Depok is south of Jakarta via the Jagorawi Toll Road (about 1 hour from central Jakarta, longer in peak traffic).

Angkot (minivans) and ride-hailing apps (Gojek, Grab) are the primary modes of transport.

What are the things to do?

The University of Indonesia campus — a vast green campus with modern architecture, the iconic UI Library, and the Makara Art Center. Depok's old colonial houses in the Pancoran Mas area. Taman Suropati Depok. Margo City mall — one of Indonesia's largest shopping centers.

Visit the University of Indonesia campus and its museums. Shop at Margo City, Depok Town Square, or Cinere Bellevue Mall. Relax at Taman Kota 2 (city park). Explore the local food scene around the UI campus.

Where to eat?

Depok has a thriving food scene, especially around the University area. Nasi pecel (rice with peanut sauce), soto, gado-gado, and various Javanese dishes are common. Student-friendly warung and cafes line the streets near UI.

Es campur, es cendol, and fresh juices are common. Wedang jahe is popular.
