About Paradip
Paradip (also spelled Paradeep) is a major port town on Odisha's north coast, about 125 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar. It sits at the estuary of the Mahanadi River, where the great river meets the Bay of Bengal — a setting of green forests, tidal creeks and islands. Paradip Port is one of India's important commercial seaports and the oldest existing port in Odisha, and the town's economy revolves around shipping, oil refining and heavy industry.
For travellers, Paradip is a working port town rather than a polished resort, but it has an easy appeal: long stretches of sandy beach, the spectacle of a busy harbour, and a string of natural attractions nearby. It also makes a practical gateway to some of Odisha's finest coastal wilderness — the mangrove forests of Bhitarkanika and the sea-turtle nesting beaches of Gahirmatha.
The touring season is November to March, when the weather is dry and mild and the sea is at its calmest; the summer months (March–June) are hot and humid, and the June–October monsoon brings heavy rain and rough seas. Many visitors treat Paradip as a day trip from Bhubaneswar or Cuttack, though there are hotels in town for those who want to linger.

Ask on WhatsAppHow to reach
By Plane
The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar (BBI), about 125 km away by road, with domestic flights to major Indian cities and limited international service. From the airport, hire a car or taxi, or take a bus, for the run to Paradip.
By Train
Paradip is connected by rail and has its own Paradip railway station, but services are limited and most travellers find it easier to reach the town via Cuttack or Bhubaneswar. Cuttack Junction, about 94 km away, is the most useful railhead; from there, buses and hired cars continue to Paradip.
By Car / Road
Paradip is well connected by road. The town lies on NH 53 (formerly NH-5A), which links it to Cuttack and the wider highway network — Cuttack is about 94 km and Bhubaneswar about 125 km away. Regular bus services run from Cuttack, and hired cars and taxis are easy to arrange at both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The coastal roads in the area are scenic.
Within the town, auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are the everyday transport, with hired cars and taxis available for trips out to the beach, the lighthouse and nearby attractions. Fares are negotiated, not metered, so agree a price before setting off. The Marine Drive area along the port is pleasant for a stroll or a slow drive.
Things to do
Paradip Sea Beach — a broad beach at the confluence of the Mahanadi and the Bay of Bengal, known for clear water, a green forest backdrop, scattered stones along the shore and views of the port; good for a few hours of relaxed wandering and paddling.
Paradip Port — one of India's major commercial seaports; the working harbour with its ships and cranes is a spectacle in itself.
Marine Aquarium — a small aquarium displaying marine life, near the port area.
Smruti Udyan — a memorial park in the town, a pleasant green space for families.
Jagannath Temple and Hanuman Temple — local shrines in the town.
False Point Lighthouse — a historic lighthouse on the coast; visiting hours are in the evening only.
Hukitola Island — an island off the coast near the mouth of the Mahanadi, with a colonial-era building once used as a navigational and shelter point.
Nehru Bungalow — a Port Trust guest bungalow by the sea, about 12 km from the town centre.
Beach time — sunbathing, strolling and paddling along the long Paradip beach are the town's main relaxed pleasures.
Watch the port — the harbour, with its constant movement of ships and cargo, is one of the more unusual sights on the Odisha coast.
Wildlife day trips — the great draw of the area is its coastal wilderness: the mangrove-laced Bhitarkanika National Park and the sea-turtle beaches of Gahirmatha are within reach for those with time and a vehicle.
Coastal drives — the scenic roads along the coast are an attraction in their own right, linking Paradip toward the Buddhist sites of the interior.

Ask on WhatsAppFood & Dining
As a coastal town, Paradip's cuisine is built around seafood — fish, crab and prawns feature heavily in local cooking, often in mustard-based Odia gravies. Rasagola, the soft chhena sweet, is a popular dessert here as across Odisha. Eateries in town range from simple stalls to hotel restaurants; as anywhere, eat where the turnover is high.
Cafes & Nightlife
The local treat is Paradip lassi — made with coconut among its ingredients — sold at Badapadia, where it is well known as "Gaveskar Lassi". Tea stalls and fresh coconut water are widely available. Tap water is not safe to drink; stick to sealed bottled or filtered water.

Paradip's accommodation is modest — mostly budget hotels and lodges, with a small number of better hotels near the port and Marine Drive. Many travellers prefer to base themselves in Bhubaneswar or Cuttack and visit Paradip on a day trip.
- Budget — simple lodges and guest houses such as Jawahar Guest House and Kash Guest House offer cheap rooms; the OTDC-run Panthanivas is a reliable mid-priced state tourism option.
- Mid-range — Hotel Aristocrat, Hotel Golden Anchor (Madhuban) and Hotel Sea Pearl offer comfortable rooms.
- Upscale — Hotel Country Inn & Suites (Paradip Marine Drive, Paradip Port) is the town's higher-end option, near the port with sea-facing surroundings.
What to buy
Paradip is a fishing and port town, not a craft centre, so the things to buy are local and practical: fresh fish and prawns from the harbour and local markets. For Odishan handicrafts and textiles, shop in Cuttack or Bhubaneswar instead.
