Why visit Sekondi-Takoradi?

Sekondi-Takoradi is the capital of the Western Region, with a population of roughly 245,000 at the 2021 census. It is a twin city comprising Sekondi (the older administrative and railway centre) and Takoradi (built around the deepwater seaport completed in 1928). The port handles an estimated 70% of Ghana's exports, including timber, manganese, bauxite, and cocoa. Since commercial oil production began offshore in 2010, Sekondi-Takoradi has become known as Ghana's "Oil City," serving as the logistics and services hub for the Jubilee oil field.
