Bogoso
Western, Ghana
Why visit Bogoso?
Bogoso is a mining town on the Ashanti Trend gold belt in Ghana's Western Region, roughly 35 km northwest of Tarkwa and adjoining Prestea. The Bogoso-Prestea gold mine between the two towns was operated by the Canadian company Golden Star Resources from 1999 (Bogoso) and 2001 (the Prestea underground workings) until it was sold in 2020 to Future Global Resources, owned by UK private equity firm Blue International Holdings; gold mining at Prestea itself dates back to the late 1800s under earlier owners. Bogoso today functions primarily as a service town for the mine and surrounding agricultural area.
