Why visit?

Estuaire is the most populous and economically important province of Gabon, centred on the capital Libreville and the estuary of the Komo River. It is the country's gateway, home to the international airport, the main seaport at Owendo, and the majority of Gabon's diplomatic and business infrastructure. Despite its urban core, the province also contains protected coastal wetlands at Akanda National Park and the forested peninsula of Pongara National Park, offering wildlife encounters within an hour of the capital.

When is the best time to visit?

The dry seasons (June-September and December-January) are the most comfortable for travel, with lower humidity and less rain. The long rainy season runs from February to May, with a shorter wet period in October-November.

Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Estuaire route around them.

How do you get around?

Libreville is the transport hub. Taxis (shared and private) are the primary urban transport. Buses and minibuses connect Libreville to other towns. Roads are paved in and around the capital but deteriorate further out. Domestic flights from Libreville connect to most provincial capitals. The Trans-Gabon Railway starts in Owendo.

  • Owendo — Gabon's main seaport and industrial hub, south of Libreville.
  • Ntoum — A market town on the road to the interior, known for its timber industry.
  • Cocobeach — A coastal town near the Equatorial Guinea border, with beaches and the Muni Estuary.
