Mooste

Põlvamaa, Estonia

Why visit Mooste?

Mooste is a small village in western Põlvamaa, situated approximately 15 km south-west of Põlva. With a population of around 400, it has become a remarkable cultural destination thanks to the painstaking restoration of its historic manor complex. The Mooste Manor (Mooste mõis), built in the 19th century and surrounded by a landscaped park, has been transformed into a vibrant community arts and culture centre that draws visitors from across Estonia.

The manor's restoration, led by a dedicated local foundation, has turned the once-dilapidated estate into a showcase for rural cultural regeneration. The complex now includes artists' studios, galleries, a concert hall, a wood-fired bakery, and a restaurant. The surrounding park, with its pond, avenues of trees, and walking paths, is a peaceful complement to the creative energy inside the buildings. The best time to visit is summer, when the manor's cultural programme is at its peak.
