New Damietta

New Damietta is a planned city on the Mediterranean coast of Damietta Governorate, established in 1980 by Egypt's New Urban Communities Authority and now home to roughly 55,000 residents across about 44 square kilometres. It was built as an integrated industrial-residential city, and today hosts one of Egypt's largest industrial zones — over 800 projects spanning furniture, food processing, plastics, garments, and engineering — anchored by the flagship Damietta Furniture City, a major national project positioning the area as one of the region's largest hubs for furniture manufacturing. It functions primarily as an industrial and residential satellite of old Damietta city rather than a sightseeing destination.

By Plane

There is no airport in New Damietta; travellers fly into Cairo and continue overland.

By Train

New Damietta is connected to the Delta rail network via nearby Damietta city.

By Car / Road

New Damietta sits on the coastal road network north of old Damietta city.

As a planned city, New Damietta has a zoned street grid separating residential, commercial, and industrial districts; taxis and microbuses cover the distances between them.

Visitors with an interest in industry can see the scale of the Damietta Furniture City project, one of the largest specialized furniture-manufacturing zones in the Middle East.

Furniture and furniture components are the city's signature product, sold through the workshops and showrooms of its industrial zone.
