Sheikh Zayed City

Sheikh Zayed City is a planned satellite city in Giza Governorate, about 38 km west of downtown Cairo, between the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road and 6th of October City. It was established by presidential decree in 1995 to ease overcrowding in Cairo by providing modern housing for a range of income levels, and is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding president of the United Arab Emirates, whose government helped fund its early infrastructure through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. The city covers roughly 42 square kilometres, is organized into a central area plus numbered residential districts, and has grown to a population in the hundreds of thousands. It is known for its relatively spacious layout, with a large share of its land given over to green space, and for retail hubs such as Mall of Arabia that draw shoppers from across Greater Cairo.

Sheikh Zayed City sits on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, about 38 km west of downtown Cairo, and is reached by road from central Cairo, Giza, and 6th of October City.

Sheikh Zayed City is primarily a residential and commercial suburb rather than a sightseeing destination; its green spaces and planned districts are its main visual feature.

Mall of Arabia and Hyper One are among the larger retail hubs in the city, serving both residents and visitors from Greater Cairo.
