Badrashin

Badrashin (Al Badrashin) is a town of roughly 90,000 people on the west bank of the Nile in Giza Governorate, south of Cairo. It is best known as the administrative markaz (district) and gateway town for two of Egypt's most important ancient sites: the ruins of Memphis, capital of Old Kingdom Egypt, and the Saqqara necropolis — Memphis's burial ground, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser and Egypt's oldest large-scale stone monument — both of which fall within Badrashin's district. The town itself is a working agricultural and residential center rather than a destination in its own right, but it functions as the practical base and access point for visiting Saqqara, Memphis, and nearby Dahshur.

By Car / Road

Badrashin is reached by road from Cairo and Giza, and is the standard access point for onward road travel to Saqqara and Memphis.

Taxis and local transport cover the short distances from Badrashin town to the Saqqara and Memphis sites.

The Saqqara necropolis, with the Step Pyramid of Djoser — Egypt's oldest large-scale stone monument — and the ruins of Memphis, capital of Old Kingdom Egypt, both lie within Badrashin's district and are the overwhelming reason travelers pass through.

Visit the Saqqara and Memphis archaeological sites; Dahshur's pyramid field is also within reach from Badrashin.
