Libenge

Sud-Ubangi, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Why visit Libenge?

Libenge is the capital of one of Sud-Ubangi's four territories (alongside Gemena, Budjala, and Kungu), sitting on the Ubangi River, part of the border with the Republic of the Congo. It serves as a river port for regional trade and has its own small airport. Long-serving Congolese prime minister Léon Kengo wa Dondo was born here in 1935. The surrounding area is equatorial rainforest, with a hot, humid climate and distinct wet and dry seasons; low-lying parts of the territory have flooded in past rainy seasons.
