Budjala is the capital of one of Sud-Ubangi's territories, about 900 km northeast of Kinshasa, and is administratively divided into the town plus five surrounding sectors. The area is sparsely populated (around 32 people per km²) and covered mainly by green deciduous forest, with a savanna-type climate averaging roughly 1,920 mm of rain a year. The local economy is based on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale trade.
