Camajuani
Villa Clara, Cuba
Why visit Camajuani?
Camajuani is a small agricultural town in central Villa Clara province, Cuba, located approximately 20 km east of Santa Clara. Founded in 1864, the town grew as a centre for sugar cane and tobacco cultivation. With a population of around 35,000, Camajuani is a quiet, unremarkable provincial town that sees virtually no tourist traffic.
The town's layout follows the typical Cuban pattern of a central plaza surrounded by municipal buildings, a church, and commercial streets. The surrounding flat agricultural landscape is devoted primarily to sugar cane and tobacco. The climate is tropical, with a dry season (November–April) and a wet season (May–October).
Camajuani is of interest primarily as a stopover or as a base for exploring the rural interior of Villa Clara province. Its proximity to Santa Clara makes it an easy day trip.
