Ranchuelo

Villa Clara, Cuba

Why visit Ranchuelo?

Ranchuelo is a small agricultural town in central Villa Clara province, Cuba, located approximately 30 km south of Santa Clara. Founded in 1734, it is one of the older settlements in the province. The town serves as a centre for the surrounding sugar cane and cattle country, with a population of around 20,000.

Ranchuelo has a quiet, unhurried character typical of Cuba's interior towns. The central plaza is the focal point of daily life, and the surrounding streets are lined with modest colonial-era houses. The economy is based on agriculture, particularly sugar production, with several centrales (sugar mills) operating in the municipality.

The climate is tropical, with a dry season from November to April and a wet season from May to October. The flat agricultural landscape extends in all directions, broken only by scattered palm trees and the occasional low hill.
