Caimito is a municipality and town in Artemisa Province, western Cuba, located approximately 45 km southwest of Havana. The town is set in a predominantly agricultural area known for sugarcane, tobacco, and fruit cultivation.

The municipality has a population of around 35,000 and maintains a quiet, rural character. The town centre has a modest plaza, a parish church, and typical Cuban small-town architecture. The surrounding landscape is flat to gently rolling farmland.

Tropical climate prevails with a wet season from May to October and a drier season from November to April. Temperatures average 25–30°C year-round.

How do you get there?

By Plane

José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana is the nearest major airport, approximately 45 km northeast. Taxi from the airport takes about 50 minutes and costs around CUC 35–45.

By Car / Road

Caimito is reachable from Havana via local roads branching from the A1 autopista or the Carretera Central. The drive takes about 50 minutes. Local buses and colectivos serve the route intermittently.

The town is small and walkable. Bici-taxis and horse-drawn carts are the main local transport. For trips beyond town, taxis or colectivos are needed.
