Lincang

Yunnan Sheng, China

Why visit Lincang?

Lincang (临沧; Líncāng) is a prefecture-level city in southwestern Yunnan Province, situated in the middle reaches of the Mekong River (Lancang Jiang). Lincang is one of China's most important tea-growing regions, famous for the Bingdao (冰岛) and Xigui (昔归) Pu'er tea varieties, which are among the most sought-after and expensive teas in China. The city itself is a pleasant, relaxed Yunnanese city surrounded by tea-covered hills. Lincang has significant minority populations, including the Dai, Wa, Lahu, and Yi peoples. The area is less touristy than other parts of Yunnan, offering an authentic experience of rural tea culture. The climate is subtropical — the dry season (November–April) is the best time to visit.
