Why visit Caoxian?

Caoxian (曹县), also known as Cao County, sits in southwestern Shandong Province near the borders of Henan and Anhui provinces. Administered under Heze City, the county occupies flat agricultural land along the ancient bed of the Yellow River. Historically named Caozhou before being designated as a county in the Ming Dynasty, Caoxian has roughly 1.7 million residents. In recent years, the area transitioned from a traditional farm base into China's primary production hub for Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) and wooden funeral caskets, with thousands of small workshops and e-commerce companies operating across its townships.

Travelers visit Caoxian to see its specialized Hanfu manufacturing districts, explore wetland reserves along the old Yellow River channel, or stop over while touring the broader Heze region. The county carries historical ties to early Chinese figures, including Shang Dynasty minister Yi Yin and Warring States strategist Wu Qi, both commemorated in local parks and museum displays.

The local climate is temperate and semi-humid continental, characterized by four distinct seasons. Summers (June through August) bring high humidity and hot weather, with temperatures frequently exceeding 32°C (90°F) and heavy rainfall concentrated in July and August. Winters (December through February) are dry and cold, with temperatures dipping below freezing to -5°C (23°F) and occasional heavy fog.
