Suihua

Heilongjiang Sheng, China

Why visit Suihua?

Suihua (绥化) is a prefecture-level city in central Heilongjiang Province, situated on the Songnen Plain about 130 km north of Harbin. Unlike many of its neighbours, Suihua is not a coal or heavy-industry city — it is primarily an agricultural centre, known as the "Granary of Heilongjiang." The fertile black soil plains around Suihua produce vast quantities of corn, soybeans, and rice, making it one of China's most important food-producing regions.

Suihua has a subarctic continental monsoon climate with long, cold winters (average January −20°C) and warm, humid summers (July 23°C). The agricultural landscape is at its most beautiful in summer (June–August) when the fields are green, and in autumn (September–October) during the harvest season. Winter visits offer a stark, beautiful snow-covered landscape.
