Lehututu

Kgalagadi, Botswana

Why visit Lehututu?

Lehututu is a historic settlement in the Kgalagadi District, located south of Hukuntsi in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. It is one of the older established communities in the region, with a population engaged in livestock farming and small-scale agriculture. The village lies in a landscape of ancient fossil riverbeds and acacia savanna, characteristic of the southern Kalahari. The area around Lehututu was once part of a more extensive river system that dried up thousands of years ago, leaving behind shallow valleys that flood briefly after heavy rain. The village has basic services including a primary school and a small shop, but infrastructure is limited.
